Snippet of the Month: Goldenrod

My name is Yvonne also known as Indu. I didn’t go the College route and decided to learn from the streets for the past 30 plus years.   I have been a practicing License Massage Therapist for over 19 years.  Then the past 2-4 years I have been expanding my knowledge with  Yoga, Aromatherapy and Herbs.  I hope you enjoy my blog on some of things I have been learning along the way...Namaste Indu

Yes, this bright yellow flowery plant has quite the history!  It also depends on who you ask.   Because cattle farmers don’t like it because its poisonous to their live stock, city gardeners thinks its just invasive to their synergy gardens, we herbalist will grow it, buy it and use it all from flower, leaves and roots.  Here are some of my cool finds about Goldenrod.   Lady Bird Johnson’s Wild Flower Center has a listing of 70 species of Goldenrod in Texas. Click here to link to their Database  Then there is Legends and Lore of Texas WildflowersClick Here!  Then of course there's one of my favorite Herbalist Teacher Teacher, Rosalee de la Foret with Methow Valley Herbs. Click Here!

In the book “Legends and Lore of Texas Wildflowers” Goldenrod was used in sailing vessels to stop blood or bleeding wounds.

In the photos to your left, above and below is Goldenrod growing around the pond where I live.  There are several species of Goldenrod so you have to do your research. These  species are most commonly used: Solidago canadensis, S. odora, S. virgaurea

 Namaste...Indu

Kitchen Sink Soup Recipe

Kitchen Sink Soup Recipe

I love to cook  and share some of the things I come up with while I play on my "Lab Day's". Here is one of my soups that I do when the house is not feeling so well.  I cook by what's in season or what I have around, so it's called "Kitchen Sink Soup". Feel free to change this to your dietary needs or what you like! I hope you enjoy it!

Namaste
Indu
